🇱🇰 Trincomalee, Sri Lanka – May 2025

On the 8th and 9th of May 2025, our team participated in a dental outreach programme in rural Trincomalee, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. Utilising a mobile dental unit provided by the Ministry of Health, we conducted dental screenings, oral hygiene education, preventive care advice, and treatments for over 250 children across two local schools.

This initiative was made possible through the support of Mr. Sajeev from the UK, whose connections facilitated the programme. We are also grateful for the collaboration with local volunteer dentists, including Dr. Sureshan and his colleagues, as well as the Lions Club of Trincomalee Town, Lions Club International, and Wright Cottrell, a UK dental material supplier, who generously donated toothbrushes, toothpaste, and oral hygiene kits.

🇱🇰 Batticaloa, Sri Lanka – August 2024

In August 2024, we participated in our first health camp in Batticaloa, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. During this camp, we provided dental screenings, oral hygiene education, preventive advice, and treatments to over 200 children in rural communities, using a mobile dental unit.

This event was made possible with the support of local volunteer dentists, a mobile unit provided by the Ministry of Health, and sponsorship from MMBL Money Exchange (Western Union) in collaboration with the Batticaloa Medical Association. A special thank you to Dr. Kantha from the UK for the connection and to local dentists Dr. Livitan and Dr. Murali for allowing Bluebell Dentistry & Aesthetics to be part of this effort. We are also grateful to Wright Cottrell for their generous donation of educational materials and toothbrushes for the dental camp.

🇬🇧 Southend-on-Sea, UK – April 2025

Closer to home, on the 15th of April 2025, we teamed up with Dentaid to deliver dental care to vulnerable groups in Southend-on-Sea. Together with Dr. Patil from Whitefern Dental Health, we brought vital dental screenings and treatments to the local community at St. Vincent De Paul, Victoria Business Park, Southend-on-Sea, a vital hub supporting those experiencing homelessness and financial hardship.

The event was supported by Dentaid’s mobile dental unit, and services included routine check-ups, oral health advice, and treatments for those who would otherwise go without.

Looking Ahead

Encouraged by the impact of these recent events, we are working towards:

• Establishing permanent dental facilities in rural Sri Lanka.

• Sourcing reconditioned dental chairs and mobile treatment units for under-resourced hospitals.

• Expanding our volunteer missions with regular Bluebell team visits.

• Continuing partnerships with Dentaid and other community organisations in the UK.
