What Are Same Day Dental Implants?
A dental implant involves surgically implanting a titanium screw into the jawbone which will act as the new ‘tooth root’ and fuse with the bone over time to create a stable and strong anchor which forms a foundation for us to build on. A custom-made artificial tooth is then fixed to create teeth that look and function just like the real thing.
With traditional dental implant procedures, the process can sometimes take months if the patient requires bone grafts, extractions and then the surgeries to implant and place the crown or bridge with time required between to heal. In the meantime, removable dentures, temporary bridges or teeth will need to be worn to help disguise any gaps.
Same day dental implants are different because unlike traditional implants, patients don’t have to face months of living with missing, temporary or removable teeth. Instead, they are able to leave their dentist the same day with a beautiful, functioning smile after just one surgery.

What Does the Process Entail?
Consultation and Planning – With same day implants, patients will attend a consultation appointment to undergo assessment, have any scans or x-rays taken, ask any questions they have and discuss their needs with the dentist.
Surgery – If they decide to go ahead, then the procedure can be scheduled and completed in just one day under sedation or local anaesthetic. During surgery, the implants are placed and a full set of temporary teeth are fixed to the implants that will provide a comfortable, great looking smile whilst the site heals.
Follow Up – Once the implant site has healed and they have had time to fully fuse with the jawbone (after around 4-6 months) the temporary teeth will be replaced for your permanent teeth that are even better and stronger than those before.
