Environmental Responsibility At Bluebell
At Bluebell, we are committed to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices. Our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly initiatives is at the core of our values. Here are some of the key steps we’ve taken to uphold our commitment to environmental responsibility:
Close to Carbon Zero building
We challenged our Architect and Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing (MEP) team to design a building close to Carbon Zero while maintaining cost efficiency. Achieving an EPC-A rating was a significant challenge, particularly for a commercial project.
Sustainability Practices: Our sustainability practices encompass a range of strategies, including:

- Sensor-controlled Lighting
- Centralised, Individually Controlled AC/Heating
- On-demand Water Heating
- Energy-Efficient LED Lighting
- 22kW Electric Vehicle Charger
- No Gas Usage
Attenuation Tank: We’ve built a 100 cubic meter attenuation tank (100,000 litres) to reduce the risk of flooding, contributing positively to the environment.
Fresh Air Changes: We maintain fresh air changes every 8 minutes, surpassing standard guidelines and ensuring an optimal indoor environment.
Motion Sensors: Motion sensors are employed throughout the building to regulate the lighting system, conserving energy and reducing our carbon footprint.
Local Sourcing: Whenever possible, we source our laboratories and other supplies locally to reduce transportation-related emissions and support the local economy. Additionally, we provide bicycle stands for our patients and staff, promoting eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
Innovations: We embrace innovations like the 5D iTero scan, eliminating the need for impression trays and materials, reducing waste, and giving us a competitive edge.
Natural Light: We have integrated large windows and roof lights throughout the practice to maximise natural sunlight, reducing our reliance on artificial lighting. Our 16 solar panels generate nearly 30% of our energy needs.
Future-Proofing: By leading the way in sustainable practices and adhering to regulations, we ensure our business remains future-proof, avoiding costly fines and legal issues.
Digital Workflow: Our “Bluebell Digital Integration” (BDI) serves as a central hub for staff, patients, and external communications, reducing the need for paper records and enhancing efficiency.
Admin and Finance Function: We’ve transitioned from paper-based to a Digital Document Management system, providing enhanced document accessibility, instant MIS, version control, and security. We use cloud-based platforms for collaboration and digital signatures for contracts.
Waste Reduction: To minimise waste, we encourage our team to use reusable Bluebell flasks and water bottles.
